Frequently Asked Questions - Responses

How do I post a response to a topic?
At the end of the responses in a topic, you will find a post box. Enter your response there. After you have typed your response, you have three options. Preview and Spellcheck checks your post for misspellings and allows you to see it before you post it. Post and Reload posts your response and shows you the topic, with your post included. Post and Go to the Next Topic posts your response and takes you to the next topic with new responses. If there are no more topics with new responses, you will go to the Topic View of the conference.

Can I edit my response once I have posted it?
No. Once you post a response, it cannot be changed.

How do I hide a post?
To hide a post, click on the number of the response. You will get a new window showing the post. Click on the hide button to hide the post. Once you have hidden a post, users will see a message which reads something like:

(Hidden Response...143 lines).

Clicking on this message will bring up the hidden post in a new window. Hide is reversible - the opposite of hide is (you guessed it) unhide. Unhide a post the same way you hide one.

How do I scribble a post?
To scribble a post, click on the response number. You will get a new window showing the post. Click on the Scribble button to scribble the post. Once you have scribbled a post, users will see a message which reads something like:

(Scribbled by (userid) at 16:20:24 on Thursday, October 10, 1996)

Scribbling is irreversible. Once you scribble a post, it's gone, and there's nothing anyone can do to bring it back.

How do I post HTML inside a response?
Embed HTML inside your response by entering the HTML code directly into the response box. If users have the option "Do you want HTML controls stripped out of responses?" set to "No," they will see your response formatted where you have added the HTML.

The following HTML tags are interpreted by WELL Engaged (Minds version):

BR DD DT HR IMG LI
A B CENTER CITE CODE DFN
DIR DL EM FONT H1 H2
H3 H4 H5 H6 I KBD
MENU NOBR OL P SAMP STRONG
TT UL VAR
How do I post URLs in a response?
To post a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) inside your response, enter the URL (for example, http://www.minds.com) directly into the response box. If your URL is longer than one line, enclose the URL in angled brackets, like this: <http://www.minds.com>. This will ensure that the URL translates correctly when posted to the topic. If users have the option "Do you want certain strings ("http", "telnet", etc.) translated to links?" set to "Yes," they will see the URL you posted as a highlighted link

How do I post links to other Electric Minds responses inside a response?
Embed links inside your response by entering the conference name and topic or response number(s) inside angle brackets into the response box:

In each case, the specified topics or responses will appear in a new browser window.

How do I view a posted URL?
Clicking on the highlighted link in the post will open a new browser window for you and take you to that URL.

How can I find out more about a response's author?
The pseudonym and userid of the person who posted a response in visible in the header of the response. The userid is a live link to the user's profile. You can set the information you want displayed about yourself on the
Settings page.
