Anatomy of a Lightbox (1)

I decided to make another lightbox like this one. This time, though, I realized that I shouldn't permanently affix the illuminated painting inside: why not hang the paintings inside, the way I hang them on the wall. That way I can swap out the paintings of appropriate size. In the past, I used neopixel strips and programmed an Arduino controller. This time I bought a pixel strip with a built in microcontroller and an infrared remote control to switch patterns. First step is to construct the hexagonal box. I used poplar wood, which I use for all my lightboxes -- I like the way it looks when finished. I have a router bit that enables me to make the six-sided joins. When the box is glued, I made the back by gluing together poplar and walnut, planing, to the right thickness, around a quarter inch, and cutting it out on a bandsaw. Then I made the box to house the controller and power supply. The notch in the box is for the infrared sensor to be visible. the short pieces of plywood inside the box are to make the frame by cutting them to size at a 60 degree angle on a chopsaw. The triangular cross-section redwood at top is affixed to the inside of the frame so the lights aim down at the painting. I painted the inside of the box black.
