I knew I wanted to do something fractal-leafy on the fractal leaves, and I knew I wanted to start with dark green on the outside. That didn't mean I knew what the pattern would look like and what would happen when I ran out of green. When you start at the outermost part of an enclosed space and create layers toward the innermost part, it invaginates in unpredictable patterns. When I ran out of green, I knew I could get to the warmer colors through yellow, so I went from greenish yellow to a lemony and then to a series of increasingly orange yellows. I've mixed up six steps in the gradient. I don't know what will happen when the invagination meets the interior heart-shaped hole in space.
