Getting a grip on a new technique
I think I've taken a step toward mastery of my recent small canvas technique of underpainting in colors then overpainting in black. This one looks to me like it's more coherent -- beginning to find my way into this method. So I underpainted three canvases in different ways. I like the results on the first two, but the third doesn't satisfy me, so I've applied the spatter technique. I may be the only person who sees it this way, but the underpainting is one dimensional, the black lays a two dimensional layer on it, and splattering adds a third. I see all three. I'm hoping that most people who don't see it that way will find it mysteriously disquieting.
