Evolution of an Animation
I'm not the first painter to get hung up on a style. At least I haven't taken years painting only with blue. But I'm drawn to watercolor dot painting because it dances on the border between intention and accident. The more I do it, the more intention I am able to wield. I cannot direct the exact location of paint dots, but I an become more aware of how to pattern them -- the viscosity of the paint, the brush, the distance between brush and paper, the way I hit one hand with the other to disperse dots, even gravity. Lately, as in this painting, I start with a couple hours over a couple of days to create a background. I've been experimenting with putting down a largish blog of somewhat watery pigment, then seeding it with contrasting dots and tilting the paper. Then I let it dry and do it again.

Then I used an app, Pixamotion, to animate. In addition to animating, I amped up the contrast and saturation.
