Failed project

I saw a short video on instagram about making a rubber-band powered car toy out of coke bottles. I spend a LOT of time trying to get it right. It turns out to be very difficult to poke a hole in the bottom of a plastic coke bottle, for one thing. Not even a power drill could crack it. I finally held a nail with a pliers and heated the tip. But there were several other constraints. I had to position the axles low enough for the wheels to reach the ground, but that meant I had to trim the propeller fins way back so they wouldn't hit the ground. I had to abandon the project. But failure is an interesting part of learning. In school, we learn to avoid failure at all costs. But with hardware and software builds, the first build is very often wrong. It becomes an exercise in debugging. And that's an important part of learning. I wrote about how "Making is a Stance Toward Learning"
